The board of directors of Preterm would like to welcome Dr. Sri Thakkilapati, Ph.D. into the Interim Director position.
Sri has been in the Preterm community for more than 20 years. She worked at Preterm from 2000 to 2007 in various roles throughout the clinic. Sri has spoken with thousands of people who needed abortions to live safe, healthy lives.
Sri's work at Preterm helped her see how our legal and economic systems can be oppressive for people who can get pregnant. This insight instilled her desire to understand how to change these systems - which led her to earn her doctorate in Sociology.
Sri's academic research built on the insights that she gained at Preterm. She studied inequities in reproductive health in the US and India. She has published in peer-reviewed journals and shared her work in conferences in the US, India, and Europe.
Before coming back to Preterm as Clinic Director in November of 2020, Sri worked: in the Maternal Mortality Review Program at the Ohio Department of Health, at the ACLU, and in community healthcare in India.
In all that time, Sri says that she received the best education in social justice from her work at Preterm. Sri was thrilled to come back to Preterm because she believes in Preterm's commitment to providing respectful, culturally-responsive care for people seeking abortions.
The board is confident that, Sri will lead Preterm as we continue to provide excellent care and navigate the post Dobbs abortion landscape here in Ohio.
