Our Green Clinic
Preterm is LEED Silver certified under the LEED-EB program (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design for Existing Buildings). This means we meet the U.S. Green Building Council’s high level of environmental sustainability. We were the first health care clinic in the country to receive this distinction.
Becoming a “green” clinic represents our conviction that reproductive justice and environmental justice are intimately linked. Across the world and in our community, women and children—especially lower-income women and children—are disproportionately affected by environmental degradation. These women are our patients, and for most of them, it is out of concern for their children and families that they use our services.
We care deeply for women and their families. We support every woman's right to have children, not to have children, and parent the children they have with dignity in healthy, safe neighborhoods.
So when we were faced with some major building system replacements and renovation needs, we looked at what would be best for women's health and welfare. The result was our plan to transform Preterm into a clinic that treats the environment with the same care that we treat our patients.
