Options Counseling
During your first appointment at Preterm, you will have a private counseling session with an experienced patient advocate. We want to give you the information you need to make the best decision for you and your specific situation. During this session, you can explore all your pregnancy options—abortion, adoption, and parenting—and discuss your decision in a supportive, confidential environment. You will not be pressured. You will be supported in doing what's best for you and your life right now.
You may make an appointment just for options counseling if you are feeling confused about how to proceed with your pregnancy.
See our resources page for help making your decision about a pregnancy.
What happens in counseling?
Our patient advocates are skilled listeners who have been trained to help you explore your feelings about your pregnancy. The counseling session is also an opportunity to ask questions and talk about any emotional, religious, or relationship issues you may wish to discuss.
You will also learn more about the abortion procedure, sexual and reproductive health, and a range of birth control methods.
The goal of options counseling is to help you feel informed, confident, and in control of your decision.
If you decide that you would like to make an adoption plan, we can support you in that process. If you decide that you want to parent, we can connect you to resources in the community to assist you. We will support whatever choice you make for yourself.
